            Workshop: What is the University?

Between the 12th and the 18th of March CHR faculty and colleagues from the Leuphana Institute of Advanced Studies (LIAS) in Culture and Society met for a ten-day workshop on the question: What is the University for?

The workshop was held at the CHR’s Iyatsiba Lab and at Bertha Retreat, Boschendal and included cultural activities and visits to sites of public scholarship and memory. Over the course of the workshop, participants discussed different itineraries and critiques of the university, in a time marked by shock and disruption, so as to rethink the place of technology and techne in the university, and the role that thinking across hemispheres might play in returning us to the question of what the university is for.

The workshop was concluded with the inaugural lecture of the New Ecologies of the Subject Research Platform which was given by Erich Hoerl who is Professor of Media-Culture and Media Philosophy, LIAS Co-director, and Vice President for Research at Leuphana University of Luneburg.
