On Wednesday, 11 March, the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) and the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg will co-host a discussion titled Johannesburg as Imaginarium: Public Art and Placemaking in the City.

Beyond Nostalgia: Reimagining Post-Apartheid Freedom

Founding CHR director and filmmaker Premesh Lalu will be in conversation with Rashid Lombard, Jayson King, Sylvia Mndunyelwa and Dinga Sikwebu about his new film The Double Futures of Athlone at the Encounters South African Documentary International Film Festival. The panel will be moderated by Valmont Layne.

New Archival Visions: 2022 Doctoral Fellows

We are delighted to announce the appointment of four Doctoral fellows to the New Archival Visions Programme in 2022. This is part of the university's effort to revitalise its humanities archival holdings and arises from recommendations contained in a White Paper titled: Revitalising UWC Research Archives that was produced by Professor Patricia Hayes, Dr Valmont Layne and Dr Anthea Josias.
