The annual workshop in Visual History and Theory in 2017 takes as its theme the (visual) subject. It engages with the making of ‘the subject’, especially though not exclusively in visual terms. The (visual) subject workshop will also engage with existing exhibitions and events in the city of Cape Town.
The workshop is organised by the National Research Foundation (NRF) SARChI Chair in Visual History and Theory, Centre for Humanities Research, University of the Western Cape.
The keynote lecture by Krista Thompson (Northwestern University) titled “I Was Here. But I Disappear”: Ivanhoe Martin and the Effect of Photographic Disappearance in Jamaica will be held on Thursday 21 September, at 2pm at the Centre for Humanities Research.
