National Forum, Cultural Evening, c. 1988. Silkscreen poster produced and printed at CAP, Cape Town, to advertise a programme of cultural events to mark 16 June. Artist unknown. In the 1980s, the National Forum was the major rival to the UDF within the framework of resistance politics. A Black-Consciousness and socialist-inclined coordinating body, it comprised anti-Charterist groups like the Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO), New Unity Movement (NUM), Cape Action League (CAL) and the Federation of Cape Civic Associations.
