In the 1980s, the National Forum was the major rival to the UDF within the framework of resistance politics. A Black-Consciousness and socialist-inclined coordinating body, it comprised anti-Charterist groups like the Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO), New Unity Movement (NUM), Cape Action League (CAL) and the Federation of Cape Civic Associations.
