Pam Sykes

Current Fellows: History Department, PhD

Pam Sykes is currently a PhD student and Fellow in the Centre for Humanities Research at the University of Western Cape. Her PhD will examine how the processes of digital storytelling, including the multiple mediations of facilitation, scripting, picture production, voice recording, digital video editing and group dynamics, shape the crafting of stories recalling migrant labour experiences in a South African township. Originally trained as a journalist, she holds an MSc in Science and Technology Studies from the University of Edinburgh and studied facilitation at Storycenter. She has worked with universities and NGOs to produce stories on topics including HIV/Aids, gender-based violence prevention, teacher education and food security.
