My research focuses on the aesthetic of the novel. It also delves into a variety of relationships that include human-animal, different caste relations and gender relations. I am using the novels by Amitav Ghosh to focus my study on these relationships. I am interested in what it is that the novel/aesthetic of the novel allows that other forms do not. And, how does Ghosh educate us as readers through this aesthetic of the novel, and in what way is an aesthetic education through the novel different or better than other formalized educations? Another area that I find increasingly interesting is race relations especially in the South African context and within the frame work of Cultural Studies.
