Damian Samuels


Fellow: Visual History, PhD

Damian is a PhD candidate in Visual History. His research focus is, generally, on the historical relationship between South Africa and the Island of St. Helena. Damian is also the convenor of a first-year Humanities programme at UWC, which is run jointly by the departments of English and History. He owns a film development and production company, Fade2Black Productions, through which he has written and produced various creative and corporate films/videos. Before entering academia he worked as an advertising manager in the media industry. Besides his academic degrees from UWC, he holds various qualifications in business, especially Marketing and Media Management from Stellenbosch University and Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
