Established in 1993, the weekly South African Contemporary History and Humanities Seminar is the longest running seminar series in Southern Africa, and continues to draw together faculty, graduate students and research fellows from across the Faculty of Arts at UWC and elsewhere. The seminar series, which reflects a growing national and international reputation, is organised around a pre-circulated paper with an appointed respondent. The seminar series has been convened and chaired by Colin Bundy, Leslie Witz, Gary Minkley and Premesh Lalu. The current chair is Particia Hayes.
The CHR in the time of a global pandemic
In line with protocols introduced by government towards the prevention and containment of the COVID-19 virus, the CHR suspended its public events, seminars, and general fellowship program until further notice. We wish CHR fellows, students, artists, colleagues and friends, as well as our partners and funders in South Africa and across the world much strength and compassion in these difficult times.
