Award Announcement: Aja Marneweck, “Best Faculty Academic Impact: Creative Arts Output Award 2022.”

The CHR warmly congratulates senior lecturer and convenor of the Laboratory of Kinetic Objects (LoKO), Aja Marneweck, for being awarded "Best Faculty Academic Impact: Creative Arts Output Award 2022", at the recent UWC Research Recognition Award ceremony.

This recognition was based upon Aja’s significant and ongoing contributions to the Barrydale Puppet Parade and Festival, and as Director of Puppetry for the Charlotte Maxeke theatre production (‘This Work is not for Yourselves’), which premiered at the Star Theatre in September 2022.

For full details of Aja’s and LoKO’s work, please follow the links below.

MAXEKE: “This work is not for yourselves”

This production premieres at the Star Theatre at the District Six Homecoming Centre (formerly the Fugard Theatre) on the 7th February until the 11th February 2023.

On April 10th and 11th, 2025, the Institut d'études avancées de Nantes will host the research workshop led by former fellows Florence Ninitte and Patricia Hayes. This workshop will explore the question of gesture through its photographic, performative, political, social, psychological, and philosophical manifestations. It will focus on the gesture as an end in itself, rather than merely a means of action, and its role in shaping visions of the future between consensus and disintegration. For more info: ...
