This poster celebrates the release of Nelson Mandela from prison after 27 years of incarceration. It quotes lines from the famous speech Mandela made in the dock at the Rivonia Trial in 1964, at which he was sentenced to life imprisonment. As it was illegal to publish his speech in apartheid South Africa, many would have read these lines for the first time when the poster was issued.
