End Conscription Campaign (ECC), Peace Now: SADF Out, 1984. Silkscreen poster produced and printed at the Screen Training Project (STP) in Johannesburg. Artist(s) unknown. This poster calls for the withdrawal of South African Defence Force (SADF) troops from Namibia, which South Africa had virtually colonised since World War I. Full-scale military occupation of Namibia by the SADF began in 1973. The occupation ended in 1989 after a military defeat by a joint Angolan-Cuban force at Cuito Cuanavale in southern Angola, paving the way for Namibian independence in 1990.Collection: CHR/UWC-Robben Island Museum Mayibuye Archives
