End Conscription Campaign (ECC), Botha Ek’s Gatvol (Botha, I’m fed-up), 1987. Offset litho poster produced and printed in Johannesburg. Artist(s): Marlene Powell and probably Isabel Thompson, Parat and Patrick Cockayne. At English-language universities, resistance to military conscription was relatively widespread in the 1980s. It is estimated that, between 1986 and 1990, more than 10,000 young people left the country each year to avoid conscription and the possibility of being deployed in the townships.
