            Arts Education Workshops in Puppetry, Performance and Visual Arts
            Arts Education workshops were conducted with 20 Grade 10 learners from Chris Hani and Luhlaza Secondary schools in Khayelitsha, and held at the Factory of the Arts from 5 March to 14 May 2016. Co-ordinated by Siphokazi Mpofu of Ukwanda the programme was taught by members of Ukwanda, Dathini Mzayiya. Itumeleng Wa Lehulere offered support in developing the performance script, production and staging of the final performance. The final performance and completion ceremony of learners who participated in the Arts Education Workshop was held on 14th May. The 20 participating learners performed a puppetry production and displayed artworks at the performance and ceremony attended by teachers from Chris Hani School for Arts and Culture and Luhlaza Secondary school in Kayelitsha, CHR artists in residence, academic faculty and students from UWC.

            Ukwanda Puppet and Design Collective
            On 20 March, Ukwanda Puppet and Design Collective performed their giant puppet at the Cape Town Carnival. Slyza puppet dances Pantsula, thereby translating the art of storytelling in the form of dance.

            Two puppet-makers and puppeteers from Ukwanda, Luyanda Nogodlwana and Ncedile Daki were hosted by the Centre for the Study of Global Change, University of Minnesota between April 15 – May 2 to work with In The Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre Company as part of a longer collaboration on puppet-making and performance.

            Dathini Mzayiya, artist in residence in visual arts is showed multimedia large scale works in the exhibition, Otherwise at the Sosesame gallery, Mellville from 26 April to 2 June.
