The St Philips Church building in Chapel Street, District Six, Cape Town, home to the Community Arts Project (CAP) in the 1980s and ‘90s. CAP ran a variety of arts classes in the building, attended by aspiring artists from all social layers, but particularly from Cape Town’s black townships. Today the building houses the District Six branch of the Factory of the Arts, a satellite of the CHR. Photograph: Derek Carelse
