 Uyanda Sade Vela

New Archival Visions Masters Fellow

My name is Uyanda Sade Vela, and I am currently completing a Master’s degree in African Languages, majoring in African Forensic Linguistics at the University of the Western Cape. My academic journey has been driven by a deep interest in understanding how language influences power, justice, and society. Through my research, I explore how communication operates within legal spaces and how language can either empower or marginalize people.

Beyond academia, I have worked in administrative and support roles that have strengthened my skills in organization, communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving. I enjoy conducting research, working with people, and finding practical ways to connect academic knowledge with real-world challenges.

My dream is to become a lecturer and researcher while contributing to public policy and social development initiatives. I am passionate about lifelong learning, community impact, and using language as a tool for positive change in South Africa and beyond.
