Writer and Playwright

Morna is a writer for TV and Theatre. She is currently commissioned to write a play for Rough Magic Theatre Company and Theatre Lovett, Ireland. In the UK she has three TV shows in development – Tendered with Kudos/BBC, Do Not Pass Go with Motive Pictures, and The Trust with Leopard Pictures.

Recent and current TV writing includes Blue Lights S4 for BBC, and development on Blue Lights S3, Bad Sisters 2 for Apple and Sexy Beast for Paramount. She received an IFTA nomination for Best TV drama script for Hidden Assets RTE/BBC (2023). She was also selected for the inaugural BBC Drama Room and went on to be named in the BBC New Talent hotlist.

Theatre includes Midden for Rough Magic which won a 2001 Edinburgh Fringe First and the Heidelberg European Author’s Award, and The House Keeper also for Rough Magic which won the Best Play Award at the Irish Times Theatre Awards 2013. Morna was dramaturg for Caroline Byrne’s productions of Katie Roche at the Abbey Theatre Dublin in 2017 and The Taming of the Shrew at Shakespeare’s Globe in 2016.

Before writing Morna worked as a professional actor for many years with companies including Rough Magic, the Abbey and Peacock, the Gate, the Donmar Warehouse, The Kennedy Centre DC, The Long Wharf Connecticut and Celtic Arts Centre LA. She has an MFA from the University of Southern California and is a Fulbright Scholar.

Morna is from Derry currently living in London.
