Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO), Azanian Student’s Movement (AZASM), Azanian Youth Organisation (AZAYO), June 16: Azania Youth Day, 1988. Silkscreen poster produced and printed at CAP, Cape Town. Artist: Martin Stevens. AZAPO grew out of the Black Conscious Movement of the 1970s and was a rival to United Democratic Front (UDF) organisations, such as the Cape Youth Congress (CAYCO). AZAPO was banned in 1977, partly because of its role in the 1976 uprising. Collection: CHR/UWC-Robben Island Museum Mayibuye Archives
