Sikelelwa Anita Mashiyi

My name is Sikelelwa Anita Mashiyi. I am born and bred in Cape Town. Coming from a township called Masiphimelele in Fish hoek. In the Eastern Cape I am from Butterworth, Egcuwa, KwaDyosini, Engwane.

Here at UWC i have been part of volunteering programs such as the HIV/Aids unit, UWC cares and also mentoring. I am currently a tutor at the anthropology and sociology department.

In my undergraduate degree, I majored in Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology. During my second year i was invited to be a member of the Golden Key Honours Society. Through my hard work I was chosen to be one of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows. I spend my June holidays of 2015 at Emory University in Atlanta with four other students from UWC with other colleges including Morehouse and Spelman. After hard work we had to present our proposal and i was chosen as one of the two fellows with the best presentation. I was able to obtain a Cum Laude in my undergraduate  degree as well as for my Honours degree.

I am currently doing my Masters in Anthropology. I have also applied to represent to the SSRC confrence in New Mexico in June and i was accepted to present.
